I recently read in our local " Community News" about Cristobal Campois. I was so impressed that I thought he deserved a place in our "Local Characters" section. If anyone has any further information or some pictures I should be very greatful to hear from you.
Born in Spain in 1920 Cristobal has lead a very interesting life. He has served in the Merchant Navy and trained as a professional boxer. In the fifties he boxed in Ryhope in Sunderland. He first came to Boldon in 1947 and married in 1949, they have two sons Mike and Chris. Cristobal still works out regularly at the Washington Leisure Centre.
After following his grandsons into taking up tae kwon do, he has recently been presented with a 4th dan black belt, a great acheivement for anyone but at 87 year old surely it is much more that "great".
