Etta's Seat
Artist Colin Wilbourne and Craig Knowles
This seat was commissioned by Anne and John Hudson, residents of West Boldon to commemorate Anne's mother, Etta, who was the tenant of the Red Lion public house from 1960 to 1980.
The monument was given a South Tyneside Good Design Award in 2006
The assessors' comments
This scheme demonstrates how a member of the local community can influence the quality of the local environment. The seat is prominently located on the main road through the village of West Boldon, providing an attractive focal point and feature of local heritage interest. The qualtiy of craftsmanship and artistic merit are recognised.
