Boldon Walks

The Countryside Team of the South Tyneside M.B.C. is developing sites within the Borough and giving access to them by walkways and bridleways.

Information about these sites and about many activities in the area is issued regularly by means of leaflets such as "Countryside News and Events" and "Walks 4 All Seasons". These publications are available from the Town Hall, Westoe Road, South Shields. NE33 2RL.
Lane through the young Colliery Wood

Two of the four suggested routes pass through The Boldons.
The "River Don Walk" is a 6 miles walk which follows the course of the River Don from the Tyne at Jarrow through Primrose, Brockley Whins and Colliery Wood to St Nicholas’ Church in West Boldon.  The picture shows part of the path created where the old colliery line once lay.

Tileshed Nature Reserve

"Linnet Way" is a 5 mile walk, starting near Brockley Whins Station, and passing through Biddick Hall Estate, Newton Garths and Tilesheds Nature Reserve to Cleadon Water Pumping Station, it then continues across the Golf Course, past Marsden Old Quarry to the coast.

A bridleway leads from Bridle Path in East Boldon to Hylton Castle in Sunderland.

On looking East from this path you will be able to see the North Sea a few miles away.
