St. Nicholas Church, Hedworth Lane

 HEDWORTH LANE Boldon Colliery, Church of Saint Nicholas - GV II Parish church. 1882. Ashlar; roof of flat tiles with tile-hung belfry at west end surmounted by small lead-covered spire. Nave and north aisle of 4 bays, chancel 2 bays, lady chapel on south side of chancel. Windows and arcades decorated. East window 5-light stained glass, west window 3-light, all others 2-light plain leaded glass. Built, some 20 years after the sinking of the shafts at the colliery, to serve the new community.

 Vicarage of Saint Nicholas Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery - GV II Vicarage. Circa 1882. Snecked ashlar with quoins and plinth; roof of Welsh slate. Twin range with 2 wings making 5 gables; kitchen wing has one storey. 2 storeys in each gabled bay. 6-panelled door, in elliptical-headed fanlight and glass and wood surround, faces south in the angle with the wing; 8-pane sash to left of the door, blank wall above, sash with glazing bars above door; return with gable having 2 sashes of 8-panes at ground and first floor. Roof has barge boards, slight sweep at eaves, one central and one rear gable stone chimneys. Kitchen wing roof hipped.
