About the Travelling Man
Until about 40 years ago The Travelling Man used to be known as the Railway Tavern as it lay alongside the railway where it crossed the A184. It is a very welcoming friendly quiz nights, Quiz night and card bingo every Sunday.
When the pub was rewired and plumbed during June and July 2003, it was noticed that there were three separate water systems three electric systems and three drainage systems which lead Hilary and Wout, the managers from October 2000 to January 2005, to believe that the pub was originaly three cottages, probably for railway workers.
According to Hilary, who was the manager until January 2005, and their customers the pub can lay claim to no fewer than three ghosts which appear from time to time. Firstly there is the ghost of an Irish railway worker presumed to have been killed on the railway then there is the ghost of a Salvation Army Temperance Leader who regularly checks up on the clients and finally there is the ghost of a boy but nothing seems to be known about who he was. Unless you know better.
