Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Jarrow
On 12th July we will be holding our second Relay For Life event to raise money for Cancer Research UK. In the lead up to the event teams of 8-15 people try to raise money by holding fundraising events eg coffee mornings .raffles sponsored events etc and then on July 12th all of the teams, their friends, families and members of the public all get together at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow, to celebrate their fundraising achievements and to remember those affected by cancer. The event begins at 2pm on Sat 12th July with a lap of honour for cancer survivors. Team members then take turns to walk the track throughout the day and night while everyone else joins in with fun activities and entertainment. At dusk candles of hope are lit around the track and burn throughout the night as people continue to walk until 10am on Sunday morning. All members of the public can be involved in all activities for free from 2pm until the Candle Ceremony finishes. Those who have registered with a team remain in the stadium where they can set up a team tent and can continue to participate in activities through the night-,remembering that
CANCER NEVER SLEEPS AND THAT FOR JUST ONE NIGHT, NOR DO WE!!
Last year 26 teams took part, we had eight survivors and we lit almost 500 candles. We raised a fantastic total of £20,000, which we would like to double this year. We want more teams more candles and in particular more survivors to show that TOGETHER WE CAN BEAT CANCER

Thanks to all who supported the disco on Fri night - not as many as we hoped but it was very enjoyable (and I HATE discos!! ) As always all of the young people there were extremely well behaved and it was a pleasure to be with them. Although we only raised £70 we did get 8 bags of clothes.
Special thanks to Gillian Grey for getting us the venue for free
Adam Grey for doing the tickets and the lights!!
Vince Wright for getting us the disco for free
Ken and Michael for a great free disco and photos
All who brought clothes bags and raffle prizes and food for the buffet
Paperwork must be completed for CRUK in May so please register teams asap
Candlelight walk has been postponed- will be rearranged for reunion of relayers in Sept
Have organised a bag pack at Morrison's Jarrow on June 8th - will be looking for people to come along for a few hours. Also on that day we can set up a table to 'sell' candle bags
Do you know of any businesses or firms who will sponsor us - we have engraved relay batons and need sponsorship of £250 per baton
Wessington Way dental practice will be sponsoring us in this way
What is Monkstock Stadefest??? We have decided to have a general theme for our Relay this year so you dont have to think of a theme for dressing up your tent and team members(altho you can if you want to) It's a kinda Hippy,70's PeaceMan Woodstock,Ozzfest thing. So find those flares which you were sure would come back into fashion and get your flowers in your hair.
MORRISON'S BAG PACK
We have permission to bag pack in the Jarrow store and to 'sell' candle bags.
Volunteers needed please.
JUNE 28th -3.30
This is a very important meeting and must be attended by a representative from all teams. We will be giving out a pack of information so that you are made aware of all arrangements for the Relay. You will be allocated a pitch, told of parking arrangements ,equipment needed , entertainment details etc.
PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THIS DATE AND ENSURE THAT SOMEONE IS ABLE TO ATTEND
If you would like to be involved in any way, for example, be part of a team, dedicate a Candle of Hope, entertain us, sponsor us or just come along on the day. please contact me on 0191 536 85 62, or e-mail me at Annwalsh11@aol.com , or jarrowrelay@aol.com or visit the Cancer Research UK website.
